The International Dwarf Sports Federation (IDSF) is the worldwide federation of organizations dedicated to the sport of dwarfism. Founded in 1993, the IDSF's mission is to promote international competition among athletes of short stature and to represent their interests in other international sports organizations, such as the International Paralympic Committee.
Goals and tasks of the IDSF:
- Promoting international competition: organizing and supporting competitions such as the World Dwarf Games, which have been held every four years since 1993 and are considered the world's largest sporting event for people of short stature.
- Representation of interests: Advocating for the needs and rights of athletes of short stature at the international level, especially with major sports organizations.
- Establishing sport-specific rules: Development and implementation of rules specifically tailored to the needs and characteristics of dwarf athletes in different sports.
- Supporting the World Dwarf Games Committees: Providing resources and support to the World Dwarf Games organizers to ensure the success of the event.
- Regulation of eligibility: Defining criteria and creating profiles for athletes to ensure fair and equitable competition.
The IDSF works closely with national and international organizations to continuously improve sporting opportunities for people of small stature and to promote their integration into the wider sporting community.
